What are the objectives of the tour?
Primarily to make connections and build understanding, of the needs of consumers outside Sydney but also for us to share who BEING is for anyone not familiar with our work. In addition, we have some specific issues that we’re looking for regional input on, specifically: creating a position statement on rural and regional mental health, what should go into BEING’s demands ahead of next year’s state election and also thoughts and ideas for the inquiry into a Human Rights Act for NSW. There’s a lot!
Who’s the Roadshow for?
We’re particularly keen to meet people working in organisations already supporting mental health consumers so we can build up relationships and hear what you see as the greatest needs. But we’re also keen to hear from individuals with mental health challenges, especially any of our members.
How do I arrange a meeting?
Fill in the EOI form selecting which of the Roadshow stops is most convenient for you and someone from BEING will be in touch to try to lock in an appointment.
Where will the meetings take place?
We’ve intentionally tried to keep things fluid so we can squeeze in as much as possible. If you’re reaching out from an organisation, we’d really like to come and meet you at your workplace. Otherwise we’re always happy to meet in a local café because we love our coffee! We can agree on a meeting place when we contact you to lock in a time.
Am I guaranteed time with you if I submit an EOI?
We will make every effort to meet anyone who wants to meet us, but there is always a chance we might not be able to meet everyone. If that’s the case, we’re offering people the opportunity to meet with us on video chat.
In which towns will the events be held?
Currently we have 12 locations locked in but things can always change with such a big tour. Click here for a full list of Roadshow stops, and keep an eye on this Roadshow hub and also our social media for the latest news and any updates on locations, times and availabilities.
I need help to address a particular mental health challenge. Can you help during these tour visits?
We never like to hear people are struggling with their mental health, but we see you and we get it. BEING is a systemic advocacy body which means we’re here to capture the lived experience of NSW consumers and feed that back to the powers that be to try and improve the system. Unfortunately, we are not set up or staffed to provide personal support and this roadshow is not designed to offer it. We do have a list of resources available on our website here of organisations whose purpose IS to provide assistance, and of course we do want to hear about your lived experience on this roadshow as it is so powerful in our advocacy work.
If you have any questions that haven’t been answered here, please email us at info@being.org.au so we can provide you with an answer and update the Q&A for everyone!
