From BEING CEO, Giancarlo de Vera.

“Change can start with a simple phone call.

Will you join me for this week’s Day of Action – tomorrow and Wednesday – and call your local MP? Ask them to support an inquiry into a NSW Human Rights Act.

BEING is one of more than 120 peak bodies calling for this. We are – you are – part of something bigger. Add your voice to the thousands demanding that human rights be enshrined in NSW law, so that everyone, no matter how they show up in the world, gets a fair go.”

Here’s a script to get you started if you’re not sure how to start the call.

“Hello, my name is (insert your name) and I live in (insert your suburb).

I am calling to ask you to support a Human Rights Act for NSW. I understand that a Human Rights Bill has been introduced to the parliament and I urge you to support the Bill progressing via an Inquiry into its content.

Currently Queensland, Victoria and the ACT have Human Rights Acts that protect the rights of their citizens but NSW does not. I ask you to support protecting our human rights in the same way that residents of our neighbouring states are protected.

I ask that you let me know if you intend to support a Human Rights Act for NSW.

Thank you.”
