Being is collaborating with NSW Fair trading to develop educational materials to support people with psychosocial disability who are accessing or managing NDIS funding. Our new project officer is one of the key staff in this project. Below is a quick introduction to the project.

Hi, my name is Alisha and I’m the new Project Coordinator here at Being! Since my start in April, I’ve hit the ground running and am enthusiastic about all the projects we have in the works.

One of our key projects this year is called Talking Together – a collaboration between Being, NSW Fair Trading & a diverse group of mental health peer educators to engage people with psychosocial disabilities to understand their rights when navigating the NDIS.

This project will be entirely co-designed and co-facilitated with people with lived / living experience of mental health issues and the NDIS, as well as the consumer law expertise of NSW Fair Trading. It is essential to us at Being to have people with lived / living experience of mental health issues in each of our locations, as their local knowledge and insights will be invaluable in both the design and delivery of this project.

A personal highlight for me so far has been our initial trip to Broken Hill! This is my first time in town, and the first time Being has engaged with this remote community. Meeting with organisations and locals who have experience with the specific mental health issues that affect the Broken Hill community has already given me a great initial insight into the specific challenges that come with living in a remote town. This has been a great opportunity to listen and learn, and I look forward to building relationships in Broken Hill over the next few months.

Our workshops are scheduled to kick off in August, and we’re excited to start engaging with all our focus communities. Stay tuned!
