The 2015 Consumer Workers’ Forum was held by BEING in partnership with the NSW Mental Health Consumer Workers Committee at The Collective Purpose in Woolloomooloo Sydney on 26 and 27 November 2015.
55 consumer workers attended this years Forum over the two day period! The Forum was a great success, full of information and inspiration as consumer workers shared learnings and discussed important issues and meaningful change.
This year’s Forum hosted a number of key speakers from the Mental Health Commission of NSW and the NSW Ministry for Mental Health Drug and Alcohol, as well as The Hon. Pru Goward MP, NSW Minister for Mental Health. All of these key speakers shared their vision for the consumer workforce in NSW and how they planned to support its growth and development. During the Forum, consumer workers were also able to raise important issues with the speakers. BEING will be assisting the NSW Mental Health Consumer Workers Committee in taking action from these discussions to begin creating meaningful change for consumer workers in NSW.
The Forum also hosted a number of professional development workshops for consumer workers, which were also created and facilitated by consumer workers. These workshops included Peer Work Skills for Diverse Populations, Recovery Colleges, Making a Career out of Peer Work, and Self-Care for Consumer Workers, along with many more.
BEING hopes to make the 2016 Consumer Workers Annual Forum even more relevant and inclusive than ever before and we hope to hear from consumer workers over the summer. Keep an eye on the BEING website for more details about how consumer workers can provide feedback and assist us creating an ever better Consumer Workers Forum next year!
