NSW’s leading lived experience advocacy bodies: BEING – Mental Health Consumers (BEING), Mental Health Carers NSW (MHCN) and the Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) have released a joint statement calling on the media to take a more mindful and professional approach when reporting on incidents involving people living with mental health issues.
“Too often, media outlets unwittingly add additional trauma to people living with mental health issues and their carers, and can even promote discrimination if their media stories fail to consider the consequences of their reporting on community attitudes,” said BEING CEO Giancarlo de Vera.
