Being in partnership with the NSW Mental Health Consumer Peer Workforce Committee, host the annual Consumer Peer Workers Forum to support the growth and wellbeing of the NSW Health consumer peer workforce. This project does this specifically through consulting with NSW Health consumer peer workers.
NSW Health Mental Health Consumer Peer Workers
NSW mental health consumer peer workers are people with lived/living experience of mental health issues employed (either paid or volunteer) in consumer designated roles within public mental health services in NSW. Consumer peer workers are employed to provide various services, such as peer support, education, representation and individual and systemic advocacy for mental health consumers.
The Annual Consumer Peer Workers Forum
The Consumer Peer Workers Forum is an annual event that brings together public mental health consumer peer workers from across NSW. This is a valuable and unique opportunity for consumer peer workers to connect with one another, share ideas and identify best practice to enhance services throughout the state.
In the past, the forum has hosted key decision makers and thought leaders in the mental health sector such as the NSW Mental Health Commissioner, John Feneley and Deputy Commissioner, Fay Jackson, leading researcher Leanne Craze, and consumer leaders in NSW including Leonie Manns and Douglas Holmes to name a few. It also gives consumer peer workers a platform to talk about issues in their workplaces and innovative projects they are running to serve their local area.
The forum is held in November each year to support the professional development of the NSW public mental health consumer peer workforce.
