July update from Being!

In late June, Elena from the Policy team attended an NDIS workshop run by Richmond Wellbeing from Western Australia. People with a lived experience of mental illness, carers and service providers attended to learn more, share experiences, and find out how to prepare for the NDIS.

Richmond Wellbeing are currently travelling around Australia to deliver these workshops as part of an NDIS capacity building project run by Mental Health Australia. Throughout the workshop there were many positive stories about the impact the NDIS is having in people’s lives. It was a great opportunity to hear from people who are NDIS participants and the experiences they have had so far.

The following resources were shared at the workshop:

  • Mental Health Commission of NSW video showing experiences of NDIS participants in the Hunter trial. Click here to watch the video.
  • A personal story from the Western Australia trial site. Click here to watch Ben White – My Way trial video.
  • The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) Official Guide for being an NDIS participant – this guide includes information about what the NDIS is, applying and what happens if you become an NDIS participant.

With the roll out continuing in NSW, there will be more workshops similar to this one. Upcoming workshops are in Dapto, Springwood, Lithgow, Forster, Armidale, Tamworth, Inverell, and Liverpool. For more details click here.
