The 2016 Federal Election – Ways to Get Involved or Take Advocacy Actions
There are a number of ways you can advocate for and promote the issues that are important to you. These include:
Contact your local candidate – Write a letter, call or see your local candidate.
- You can find out who to contact by visiting your local council or government website. To find out who your Federal electorate and representative is, visit the Australian Electoral Commission website.
- Reach Out has developed tips on contacting your local MP when calling, writing or arranging a meeting.
- Check campaigns for letter templates you can use, for example, see the Australians for Mental Health letter template.
Spread the word – Promote, discuss and advocate for positive action. Campaigns, such as the MI Fellowship campaign, have developed tweets and posts you can use to help spread the word.
Join the movement – Join the movement to show your support. This can include things, such as volunteering, sharing your story, or signing online petitions. For example, the Vote Home campaign currently has 6 petitions campaigning for housing affordability and stability.
