BEING and the NSW Institute of Psychiatry are running a 3-day Consumer Advocacy Workshop. Through the workshop, consumers will improve their understanding of, and confidence in, consumer advocacy and representation.

This course, facilitated by BEING’s CEO Dr Peri O’Shea, is suitable for beginners who are just starting out, as well as consumers who are already working in the space who may want to brush up on their advocacy skills or fill in the gaps with insight that has not been presented in other settings.

Over 3 full days, the workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Advocacy and Social Justice Principles
  • Consumer Advocacy
  • Consumer Representation
  • Looking after yourself
  • Committee Skills
  • Looking after yourself
  • Networking
  • Essential knowledge and skills for advocacy
  • Evaluations

The Consumer Advocacy Course is restricted to consumers only, that is, people who have personal experience of living with mental illness.
