In mid-May, mental health inpatient services for children and young people across NSW came together to share the learnings and challenges of their services.

Here are some of the strategies that services said were having a positive impact in their service:

  • Nurses spending time to be around the young people at the service in a casual way, so that young people can feel comfortable opening up to staff outside of formal therapy.
  • Making sure that young people receive clear, simple and consistent information and explanations from all staff.
  • Sitting down together with other services that were involved in the care of a young person to reflect on how things could be done better.
  • Doing safety planning together with the young person.

BEING is pleased to have been able to attend the event and hear about the work that services are doing to continually improve service quality.
