A big thank you to everyone who participated in the 2014 Recovery in Art exhibition, as either an artist, volunteer, family or friend, or general art buff.
This year’s exhibition was biggest and most diverse Recovery in Art to date.
It featured 100 artworks from all across the state, each created by a person with lived experience of mental illness.
The exhibition was launched by newly-appointed NSW Governor His Excellency General David Hurley, NSW Mental Health Minister Jai Rowell and NSW Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich.
It was great to see our artists’ works being recognised by such prominent community leaders. It was the Governor’s second official appearance since his appointment. In his opening speech, he said that mental health would be a keystone issue for his time as Governor. .
Running from Wednesday – Friday (8-10 October), the exhibition celebrated the creativity and resilience of people with lived experience of mental illness and tried to break down stigma through the use of personal stories and artistic expression.
